Manufacturers around the world are turning to Sonoco’s Protective Packaging experts to protect products during shipment.  From engineering and design, to prototyping and testing, to manufacturing, our team has the experience and expertise to provide a total solution.

Whether engineering products or packages, the ultimate in design is reached not when nothing more can be added, but when nothing else can be removed. Sonoco Protective Packaging has answered the call from customers around the world to design a “less is more” package—one that will reduce damage losses, improve sustainability, stack higher in warehouses, pack denser in trailers and eliminate raw materials that serve only to help the product endure the trip between factory and consumer. Those customers, like you, prefer a supplier who’s:

  • Better integrated. All engineering, designing, prototyping and ISTA-certified testing is done by the same team.
  • More streamlined. You don’t want to wait for third-party test results. Having the ability to work side-by-side with designers allows you to make changes on the spot, have new prototypes built, and re-test them immediately.
  • Faster to market. Having all critical design and testing functions in one place helps you fast-track product introduction and gives you an edge on competitors.
  • Complexity simplified. You want depth of packaging expertise and creativity that makes perfecting complex solutions less complicated and easier to implement.

ReadyGrow™ Young Plant Shippers
Sonoco’s new rigid paperboard shipping systems, Young Plant Shippers, better protect young plants during transport. Designed to address problems associated with transporting live young plants in traditional corrugated packaging, Young Plant Shippers securely hold in place and protect plant trays during shipping. The new system can be used for express shipments or put on a pallet and transported by truck. Sonoco’s patented formed inserts are 100-percent recyclable and constructed to withstand high moisture levels and provide increased support of plant trays during the shipping process.

Available:
• For loads from one to six trays
• As standard- or custom-printed boxes
• In insulated or non-insulated designs

ReadyGrow™ SonoShelf™ Plant Transport System
SonoShelf, Sonoco’s new plant transport system, is an all-paper, recyclable structure that allows economical one-way shipments from grower to grower or grower to retail, without the worries of cart return or wood system disposal. Its open-air format is simple to both load and shop, while the smooth paper surface allows shippers to avoid wood splinters and unsightly retail displays. SonoShelf can be assembled by layers, making it less difficult for workers to load and unload plants.

Available:
• In standard 30 x 40 cart size
• In full 40 x 48 pallet load size
• With varying numbers of shelves and shelf heights

ReadyGrow™ Biodegradable Planter
Sonoco’s new biodegradable planter, made from single-wrapped 100-percent recycled paperboard produced locally in Sonoco’s paper mills, is sustainable in commercial greenhouse environments and conveyable on automatic or manual greenhouse production lines. ReadyGrow pots are porous, allowing oxygen to pass through the container to the roots. Sonoco’s RootGuard™ technology is a proprietary coating added to ensure the pot withstands greenhouse watering and maintains good water absorption while in the soil. With the patent-pending ReadyGrow planter, Sonoco is able to offer consumers an environmentally-friendly, no-mess alternative to plastic planters that is both sustainable and sturdy. Retailers no longer have damaged plants and lost sales caused by pots molding, disintegrating, or tearing apart as consumers lift them from greenhouse trays. Instead, they’re now able to offer consumers a truly conveyable package.
